Paa is honey, replete is novizau and houson is hungry. Novotuk also means replete or kenyang in Malay.

Nokopuan huhusou takod au di katangkus.  Sprained one's ankle, unable to run. Kaki (buku lali) tergeliat jadi tidak boleh (ber)lari.

ohiivan, nohiivan, kohiivai, kohiiiu

ohiivan-  forgotten or overlooked egs. Posuaton no om au nodii ohiivan. Write it down so that it will not be forgotten or overlooked . 2) Osomok ohiivan daa moninduk manuk nga mookook kopizo.  Would have forgotten to feed the chicken if not for its cackle.

nohiivan-  can't remember, forgot, forgotten or has escaped one's memory  egs. Nohiivan ku oh ngaan nu. I can't remember your name. 2)Nohiivan ku oh pinokianu dau.  I have forgotten his/her request.  3)Nohiivan ku nodii  do ingkuo dii popoguhu poh haid.  A lot of things in the past have escaped my memory.

kohiivai- overlooked, forgotten  eg. Kohiivai nu minogovit oh dahin? You didn't bring a change of clothes?

kohiiiu/kohiiihiuu/obinghiiiu-  forgetful  eg. Kohiiihiuu dii, ananauu nodii umul. A bit forgetful due to age.

sumaat, nakasaat

Oh, blimey.  I forgot how to do anything on this blog. I mean really. My brains really kaput for a while. I got switched off for sometime. Is my spelling for 'switch' correct? Amnesia is not really a foreign word after all. Wow, for a long moment there. I thought I had a few greats to share. I totally forgot how to post a new post. Now, I wonder how did I even get to be here.

I have a Kindle e-reader. It's actually underutilized. When I so... wanted it the waiting-game was like forever.   I had like googled on its usage and all. By the time it showed up, I'd forgotten whatever information was pertinent. Anyway, I used to be really a crybaby. It was not because I was scared of something or anything. It was more of a 'soppy' situation. Until I decided to do some 'spring cleaning' to my existence. But when I was helping my son with his pancake-making  I felt kind of soppy again. He is partnering with another classmate to demonstrate in class how they make their pancake. He is ten. I would have cut class during my time. That was not soppy. I was being silly, timid and shy.

Anyways, now on sumaat or nakasaat. Sumaat would be having goosebumps. 'Sumaat zou' is like saying 'I'm having goosebumps'. It is present now. It is happening right now. 'Nakasaat zou' is equivalent to 'I was having goosebumps' or 'I had goosebumps' all over me upon hearing the news. News could either be good or bad. You had the goosebumps for whatever reasons. You got past  that certain prickly feeling to tell.
 Just  to drive it home (almost/?) 'saat' means  a paint or color. So, it's like you are all 'hair' when you are 'sumaat'. Hair standing on end on your skin..

osuau(w) is friendly. Osuauw oh voos. A friendly face. Approachable. Affable

Chicks is pizak

I saw a bit of 'HOP' the movie wherein Russell Brand is the voice-over for a rabbit. There definitely are a lot of chicks in that movie. Chicken chicks, that is. We call chick, pizak. Tanak do manuk.

A wick is tinsim, right?

What's wick in Kadazan? Anyone? I've been cracking my head. Can't remember... You know that thingy you light up. Ah... I think I just got it- tinsim.  Wow! What a relief! Guess my bulb is still quite alright. I better be right. Aiso tinsim, aiso titikan, aiso sumbu om otuvong dii.

On dunsu, nokohunggata and oonsom

Once, going years back, a couple of young children were sparring words with each other. I overheard one was saying to the elder and bigger one: I'll mallet you. Now, what is the equivalent in Kadazan? Dunsuvon ku iziau. They just came back from abroad around that time. I wanted to smile. Oh, I guess I did. See, I took a listen.

It always tickles me whenever I hear or read : It went 'belly up'. Think me weird. Perhaps, I am sometimes. Certain sounds just catch my fancy. So, is belly up = nokohunggata. Do we say nokohunggata to mean bankrupt or nodingkalap/nobingkalap/nobingkrap?

I recall oonsom is not just sour. What about " 'Oonsom ko' (k)ada kama" ? "You will get into trouble"? "You'll be in a pickle"?

PANGAZOU

Huh! I inadvertently posted my page on my son's blog. He never signs out. I thought it was mine. Fancy him finding out.
Now, it's a drag to repeat it verbatim. It's actually about mangazou/praising and mokiazou/child-like attention-seeking . What is that? Like minta puji? Seeking for validation. Now what's wrong with that? I am a sucker for good actors in movies. But adults behaving like a kindergartner minus a prompt? Spare me.
Ok. Now, come to PANGAZOU... as I write I have no idea as to the meaning. I mentioned a way back that I love watching MERLIN. I can't wait for PANGAZOU.  My hook, line and sinker is ready.

 How to categorize: 1) ikadai (verb)/boos gumua(doing word)-i) Ikadai (boh)-(disapproving action) as in like 'Cough at someone/something'
 2)mogikod (adjective/boos papatahang/tahang also  verb)- e.g. i) Nahatang sikul ih Tosindak di baino sabap mogikod (describing Tosindak's ill- health), Tosindak is absent from school today because she is coughing. ii)verb -Mogikod ih Tosindak(Tosindak is coughing).
3) mobpogikod -verb,adverb/ boos gumua pointahang i) Mobpogikod nopo ih Tosindak. Tosindak is always coughing
4)mikod-ikod-adjective papatahang/popointahang a situation i.e. mikod-ikod or coughing

I am actually stumped. Let me give it a shot.

abantug = oihaan, kointanga, ointutunan, obontugan
E.g. 1) Bah, abantug ko do au osinono (disapproving).
English: Huh, you'll come to the fore for being inappropriate. 2)You'll be known for misbehaving. 3)People will recognize you for misdemeanor. (That's being sarcastic).

mokibantug = blowing your own trumpet, minta puji, approval- seeker, self- promoter
I mean, what's wrong with self-advertising when it's called for, right?

KOBONTUGAN
I remember this word being used in a prayer.

Kobontugan doid Minamangun = Praise be to God.
Somok ohiivan ku daa.

Now the crunch.
Nabantug vs tabantug

You can say: Nabantug kopizo isido. Someone is well recognized. (use of nabantug here is descriptive therefore it is an adjective)

You cannot say: Tabantug kopizo isido (not common to say this)
 You can say: Ii tabantug mai dii (referring to someone/something therefore a noun)

I'm really stumped. Depending on your usage nabantug and tabantug can both be a noun as well as an adjective. I think

Naabantug= higher than just nabantug, nabantug kopizo,nabantug banal, nabantug tootopot

Am I making sense here?

Stabbing in the Dark; Pinakai and Leeches or Himbata

I watch 'Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader' when I do get the chance. I was very amused  like ROFL when one participant said that she likened herself 'stabbing in the dark' with her guess- answer to a question. She didn't have a clue as to the right one. I was imagining a Kadazan scenario (such a scenario exists in my head). Pardon my guilty head. My imagination is probably way way out of base. Gory. Pinakai is a machete if I remember correctly. So imagine someone in somekind of a sarong hiked to the thighs running, brandishing a pinakai wading through mud and crossing dykes on paddy fields  after an undescribed figure or creature. Can't imagine?

I had my time getting really creeped out by leeches in paddy fields. Once I had to go a good length of a dyke on my parents' paddy field just to be rid of a leech latched on to my shin. I was out of my wits. I was so so fearful of the creature. My scream was echoing all around. At the same time I was rubbing my shin mightily against a dyke on the paddy field. Come to think of it, I guess it just got started that was why it didn't budge easily. So, there I was getting frantic in disengaging the sucker. You ask me, I'm still scared of that sucker. Super scared!
